Who doesn’t like quick, fun, and easy craft projects during a weekend! We sure do, and we’re sure you’ll love today’s craft if you’re craftahlic like us! In today’s tutorial, we’ll show you how to make 3d paper hearts. They turn out so cute and puffy, you’ll want to craft more.

At first, we thought about making puffy origami hearts, but we found many great tutorials on the internet on making origami puffy hearts. And most of them are a bit difficult for absolute beginners. That’s why we decided to use some glue to make this 3d heart. So yes, it’s not the purest form of origami, but it’s one of the easiest puffy heart-making tutorials on the web.

Even if you’re a beginner in paper crafting, you can make these cute and puffy 3d paper hearts easily, with the help of our step-by-step tutorial. The total cost of about 20 3d paper hearts should be less than a dollar. The craft requires a little craft glue and a pair of scissors. a set of 200 sheets of origami paper costs around $8 and with all 200 sheets you can craft up to 800 3d paper hearts.

How to Make 3d Paper Hearts

Supplies You’ll Need

  • Colored craft paper
  • Craft glue

Puffy Origami Style 3d Heart Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Base Paper

Select a colored craft paper and prepare it into a 20 cm x 6 cm sheet. You can use a bigger or smaller sheet as well, but make sure to keep the ratio 20:6. Use a ruler and pencil to make sure that the size is correct.

Step 2: First Base Folding

Let’s work on our first fold. Simply fold the paper diagonally from any one corner. Make sure to align the top (6 cm side) side with the adjacent longer side (20 cm side) neatly. This will form a triangle part at the end of the paper.

Now, notice the straight line along the inner bottom side of the triangle, fold the triangle part along that edge. This is the second fold.

For the third fold, make the fold along the inner, diagonal side of the triangle.

For the fourth fold, fold the triangle part along the bottom, straight side again, as we did in step 3.

This is our 5th and last base fold. Fold the triangle part along the inner, diagonal side. After the last fold, there should be a little paper left. Fold the corners inside, of the remaining side.

The base folds have created several pockets; now, insert the remaining small part of the paper inside the top pocket.

After inserting the open end inside the top pocket, apply glue to secure that end completely. There should be another open end on the other side of the paper, secure that side with glue as well. Allow the glue to dry completely before heading towards the next step.

Use a pair of scissors to cut round-edges on the 2 45 degree corners.

Step 10: Gently Press the Paper Pattern

Take the current paper pattern and gently press the bottom corner and its opposite side. If necessary, you can insert your finger through the created in the previous step.

Step 11: Fold in the Top Middle Point

Gently create pressure right in the middle point of the top side and this should automatically form a puffy heart shape.

If the 3d heart doesn’t turn out perfectly in your first attempt, do not worry. Every craft requires a little practice. Make a few more and you’ll see how your skills improve with each 3d heart craft.

Here are some quick crafty tips if you’re having difficulty crafting the 3d paper hearts.
